Voodoo Val:
All right, hopefully everyone can hear us. Welcome in, everybody. Are you guys ready for some awesome design off? Some draw off stuff happening. I'm trying to wait and make sure that everyone can hear me. Welcome in, everybody. My name is Voodoo Val and I am going to be hosting this super cool segment called Design Off. I'm joined by my best bud, Mr. Alex Lazaris. We are best buds, right?
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely.
Voodoo Val:
Maybe not for the duration of this awesome challenge because we're going head to head today.
Alex Lazaris:
Head to head?
Voodoo Val:
Yes. Going head to head. But we're very excited to be doing this. So this is something we've never done before on Adobe Live. Essentially what we're going to be doing today is playing a game called magic hat and magic hat. We both have magic hats, which I haven't seen your magic hat yet. Do you want to show?
Alex Lazaris:
Have you shown yours, though?
Voodoo Val:
I have not. This is my magic hat. Wow.
Alex Lazaris:
My racing helmet from way back in the day gradient.
Voodoo Val:
That's actually really cool. That is super razzle dazzle. Very snappy.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm hoping it'll bring me luck for this competition.
Voodoo Val:
I think it will. I think this is great. So we both have a magic hat and our magic hats are filled with words that we are going to be drawing. Yeah, I got my words all in here. And we're going to be drawing words that we both have to add into a design that we're going to be drawing today. So for the next hour, we're going to be, like, continuously adding new words that we have to keep incorporating into the challenge. And I'm going to be doing illustration. I'm going to be doing character illustration. Why don't you talk to them about what you're going to be doing, Alex?
Alex Lazaris:
I am going to be doing probably a collage of things. I know we have a bunch of different words. We haven't seen each other's words. We have no idea what we're going to get. We've got one word each. Every time we draw, unless we choose for chat to choose, we add even more randomness into it.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, I've got a few of my words in here are not actual words. It just says chat's choice. So you guys have an opportunity to be throwing some words into chat that we have to incorporate. And it should be fun. Should be cool.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm really nervous.
Voodoo Val:
Me too. But I'm also know this is also going to be super fun. So throughout this challenge, guys, you guys are going to get a little view like this. So you'll get to see Alex's work or you'll get to see my work, or sometimes you will get to see both of us design at the same time. I'm going to be switching through here so you guys can keep an eye on what exactly we are drawing. I think I might actually start out where everyone could see both of our works just so that we can get it going at first. So how about we draw some words? Let's do it. So I'm going to mix them up here and see what I get.
Alex Lazaris:
Don't cheat.
Voodoo Val:
And look, I'm trying. I'm not cheating. Okay, so what'd you get?
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, God. I've got toy.
Voodoo Val:
Toy?
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah.
Voodoo Val:
Okay.
Alex Lazaris:
I kept it nice and vague. That's like a softie.
Voodoo Val:
I have the word spiky, which is actually reversed. It's like, here. Maybe if I turn it that way. Yeah, there we go. You can see through the paper. So I've got spiky. So toy and spiky. I don't even know how I'm going to incorporate that. We're going to go for it, though. Yeah, we're going to try.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm going to start by trying to find some adobe stock real quick.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. All right, let's see. I've got, like, a little base head kind of sketched out here, just so I didn't spend this whole stream sketching around. You've got some pretty cool little robots going on over there. I'm not really drawn a robot, but this is going to be interesting to see how I can incorporate it into character design, though. Okay, so spiky and toy.
Alex Lazaris:
My goal for the end of this is to come out with a skateboard graphic. I know we have a lot of different words that we can choose from, so I think that would probably lend itself to being kind of an interesting canvas piece.
Voodoo Val:
I love that robot, by the way.
Alex Lazaris:
It's kind of, like, vintage and kind of fun.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, super fun. All right, so winner, winner, fidget spinner. Yon, you got to go. You can't do that stuff here. Spiky eyeballs, spiky ears. I appreciate that you're both using your respective helmets for Are. We are. Okay, how do I do this? I think I'm going to go for Spiky hair.
Alex Lazaris:
It looks like Val, that pre sketch that you did is not helping you very much in these early stages of this battle.
Voodoo Val:
No, it's honestly, like, I thought I was going to have an advantage because I have, like, a base set up for myself, but honestly, I don't even know how to incorporate Toy into a character design. I guess I could make a character that's, like, shiny and plastic.
Alex Lazaris:
You could also go for the long game. Right. Hoping that it's like poker, like you're waiting for the flood. The flop. The flop.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. I'm going to sketch some Spiky hair, and then I'm going to think about how I'm going to incorporate toys. I could give this character some earrings. Like, oh, I'm going to give my character rubber ducky earrings. That's how I'm going to interpret it, and I get to interpret it however I want so no one can stop me.
Alex Lazaris:
Amen.
Voodoo Val:
That's the beauty of this. Okay, let me do some.
Alex Lazaris:
Sketchy. Chris. All right, I'm off to a strong start so far. It's probably going to fizzle out really fast, but I'm happy right now.
Voodoo Val:
No, you got it. You got this.
Alex Lazaris:
All right. Got to keep the momentum going.
Voodoo Val:
I'm, like, trying not to root for you because you are my opponent, but I also like you a lot, so I can't not root for him. Also, anyone in Chat, feel free to do this challenge with us.
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely.
Voodoo Val:
Because it doesn't have to just be us. You guys could totally tweet us whatever you do for this challenge or put it in the discord or whatever you want.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah, we're going to post this on Twitter later on so that you guys can vote.
Voodoo Val:
Absolutely. We can also do a straw poll. Yeah, let's do a straw poll. We'll do, like, a straw poll so people can vote on the winner. Okay, I've got, like, a sketch of Spiky hair, but I am going to clean it up a little bit. And also we're going to be drawing new words every, like, 15 to 20 minutes. So pretty soon here, it's going to get harder. We're going to have to add something else in here.
Alex Lazaris:
You know how hard it is sometimes when you're doing this so fast and you just forget where the tools are that you're looking for? Oh, yeah, that's happening right now.
Voodoo Val:
Every single time I'm on Adobe, at least one time I forget how to do something and I'm like, oh, no, they can see.
Alex Lazaris:
I keep forgetting that the new selection tool is where the magic wand is.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah.
Alex Lazaris:
Just spent a solid minute looking for that.
Voodoo Val:
Good. All right. I could do spiky like that. I could do, like, spiked up hair. I might see, I could go for, like, ninety S. Ninety S. Cute girl hair where it's just, like, flipped up and spiky. I might actually do that.
Alex Lazaris:
90S cute girl hair.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah. You know how it's just, like, kind of comes out like it's sleek and then it kind of flips by the ears into, like, spiky?
Alex Lazaris:
I can't say I was part of that design trend.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, I'm sorry. It was just me then. Just me and the cranberries, I guess.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, there you go.
Voodoo Val:
All right. How are you doing over there, opponent?
Alex Lazaris:
I'm trying to get these white spaces. I'm losing valuable time on the white space area. Trying to get out some of the coils because I think I might want to do, like, a monochromatic look.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, gotcha.
Alex Lazaris:
Make all my things kind of uniform at the, uh I've got two objects that will work. Right, alex val's ahead. You haven't even started yet. That's true. Very true.
Voodoo Val:
I thought that this was going to be me and you picking on each other, but I forgot that Adobe Chat regulars can be very trolley, so it might end up being us, being good friends and protecting each other from the chat.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm going to call you after this and we can cry together and yacht.
Voodoo Val:
Eric was so mean, and he just kept requesting cats, but I wasn't trying to draw a cat.
Alex Lazaris:
You know, I was thinking you might get a home field advantage. I was thinking somebody in Chat might request, like, Star Wars lure stuff.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, yeah.
Alex Lazaris:
Like, oh, no, chat could betray you.
Voodoo Val:
Better hope that they don't get Chat's choice drawn out of the magic hat.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm going to hope that one of the mods will just slap it down.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, just be like, sorry, we're hiding anything that booty Val can use. What is the Alex Lazaris equivalent of Star Wars? Like, Val is to Star Wars. Alex is to what exactly?
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, man, I gotta know. I don't think I have, like I have phases where I go super. Like, I dive really deep into something I'm really interested in.
Voodoo Val:
Really?
Alex Lazaris:
Okay. And then I'll probably find something else later on.
Voodoo Val:
Got you. Okay. I'm, like, sketching a little rubber ducky amazing. To put as the earrings of my character because your word is toy. And I'm going to give him a little head floof because I think rubber duckies look cute when they have a little head floof.
Alex Lazaris:
So I brought my little guy into Illustrator now.
Voodoo Val:
Okay.
Alex Lazaris:
And now I'm going to try to give him a little ground to stand on. I'm going to make a little.
Voodoo Val:
Kind.
Alex Lazaris:
Of orbit around him where I can probably my goal is to plan for the long game right. As we're adding words.
Voodoo Val:
Nice.
Alex Lazaris:
What can I do to make him kind of work? So I'm trying to currently match a floor or an orbit around him. I'm going to use the step tool to create bigger centric circles.
Voodoo Val:
Nice.
Alex Lazaris:
That should work.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. There's my little rubber ducky with his little head floof. All right, we got, like, a couple of minutes here, I think, before we think about adding another word. I know we can give it a little more time. No, you're just, like, go for it.
Alex Lazaris:
Let's go.
Voodoo Val:
I'm going to add some yellow into this rubber ducky so I actually know what it is.
Alex Lazaris:
One option.
Voodoo Val:
Get, like, some blue eyes duckies have. I think that looks cool. All right. I'm going to also give him a little headshine and a little shine on them. Tail feathers. That's how I'm going to win this. With tail feathers?
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah. You're going to appeal to everybody's loving of cute animals.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. That's the whole plan. Because I have nothing planned beyond that.
Alex Lazaris:
This is all I got this, right?
Voodoo Val:
Yes. We literally have no idea what words are in each other's magic helmets. So all of this is completely impromptu and not planned at all.
Alex Lazaris:
It's kind of like chopped.
Voodoo Val:
Yes.
Alex Lazaris:
Do you ever watch that show?
Voodoo Val:
Yes. So good.
Alex Lazaris:
It's a mystery basket full of ingredients I have to work with.
Voodoo Val:
All right. These are little earrings. Little yellow rubber ducky earrings. Oh, yeah. And I'm going to put these on my character. Let's see. I'm going to separate these from the layers. All right. I'm going to give us, like, another minute and a half, and then we're going to draw new layer, new words layer via cut. I'm trying to keep track. And then also you've got so many.
Alex Lazaris:
Things you're juggling right now. It's quite impressive, actually.
Voodoo Val:
Thank you. I appreciate it. There's my little rubber ducky.
Alex Lazaris:
People don't understand. It's hard to do this in the time constraint we have. But then also read chat and moderate our thing.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. Try to survive. Okay, let's see. Adobe has charged me oh, I'm sorry, Jerry. I recommend if you have any issues with Adobe products or maybe something is not working the way that you expect it to work, please head over to the support forums for help with that. We cannot help you with technical difficulties with the programs here in the chat. And since we're doing, like, a game show thing, it's not even really something we can demo a solution to. So please go to the support forums if you have any questions. Yo, what's up, Amy kai blanc? Yes. The tail feathers. All right, guys, we're going to add another word, so I'm going to shake up my magic cat here. Are you ready?
Alex Lazaris:
We're doing two words or one word?
Voodoo Val:
One word. But I guess for now, if it gets crazy, we could just add, like, once we both draw one. If you would prefer, we could just choose one of the two words to incorporate if it starts getting too massive and too wild, but all right, here we go. What do you got? Oh, no. You look really upset. You look really naive.
Alex Lazaris:
Wedding.
Voodoo Val:
What?
Alex Lazaris:
Wedding. I was listening to a podcast and somebody talked about a wedding, and so now we have wedding.
Voodoo Val:
I've got the color red.
Alex Lazaris:
Red Wedding.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. Okay.
Alex Lazaris:
I put red and then wedding right underneath each other. I was hoping that we'd have Red wedding. Perfect. Thank you.
Voodoo Val:
This is great. Okay, red and wedding have been added. Those of you at home who are working on the challenge, those are your new words that you have to add to your thing. I don't even know. I guess I could give this character, like, red hair, and then she's, like, going to a duck wedding. I don't understand because she's got rubber ducks.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm surprised you're not throwing a dagger or a knife in there.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, I could combine them and say Red wedding, but I feel like it doesn't, like, daggers and knives don't really go with this weird rubber ducky motif I've got going, so I'm kind of.
Alex Lazaris:
Like I mean, it could be a ninja rubber ducky.
Voodoo Val:
It could. He just is so sweet and cute. I don't know. You're both brave to do this live online. We're actually horrified. We're not laugh when we're nervous, that's all.
Alex Lazaris:
I mean, I'm not laughing.
Voodoo Val:
I'm not nervous.
Alex Lazaris:
You're nervous?
Voodoo Val:
We're like the dog in the burning house. This is fine. This is fine.
Alex Lazaris:
Game of Thrones.
Voodoo Val:
Red Wedding. Yes.
Alex Lazaris:
I was hoping, but then I don't want to use Game of Thrones IP.
Voodoo Val:
What do you mean, game of Thrones? It could just be, like.
Alex Lazaris:
Swords and dragons.
Voodoo Val:
Anyway, I'm going to give this character red hair, and I'm going to try and see how I'm going to incorporate wedding into this. This is bizarre. What kind of words do you have in your magic hat? I don't understand.
Alex Lazaris:
They're more of, like, I don't know, objects and things.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. I put a lot of adjectives and stuff like that in there.
Alex Lazaris:
That's smart. Yeah. I ended up adding, like, colors and stuff.
Voodoo Val:
Also, I think that there's some seasons as well. It all right. I'm going to switch over to your screen a little bit, unless you don't want me to. Okay. I'm going to switch over to Alex's screen just so everyone can check out.
Alex Lazaris:
What Alex is doing, the monstrosity he's working on.
Voodoo Val:
I love the little cake topper there, by the way.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah. Trying to keep it as, like, if I can keep it feeling like a toy scene, I'll be happy.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. I guess in my head, every time I get a word, I'm systematically trying to just finish that word off, I guess, like, okay, I add something pertaining to that now. Let's never deal with it again.
Alex Lazaris:
Essentially, I feel like, yeah, I'm taking the opposite approach. I'm trying to keep everything as much as open as possible until I get to the final stages, and then I'll tie it all together.
Voodoo Val:
Got you. That's a cool approach.
Alex Lazaris:
Trying to readjust my approach as a word gets added.
Voodoo Val:
That works. That works. All right, let me see if I can add some red shadow under here. What are you guys working on? I want to know the words remaining in Val's helmet. Just like, 24 iterations of Kylo Ren. I love that everybody knows me well enough that this is a thing in the Chat now.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah. That's amazing.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah.
Alex Lazaris:
Alex, do a robot wedding, man.
Voodoo Val:
You could do robot weding.
Alex Lazaris:
Thank you, Chat. Chat's, always a savior.
Voodoo Val:
Yep. Chat's.
Alex Lazaris:
Got it going on. Yeah. Thank you, Chat.
Voodoo Val:
Wow. Where are my suggestions? Chat. All I get is Kylo ren. The one time I don't want only chat messages about Kylo Ren.
Alex Lazaris:
Does this look like a wedding to you?
Voodoo Val:
It looks like post wedding, like, four years down the line.
Alex Lazaris:
It's time to do some push ups.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah. Come on. Come on, babe. Oh, man. Working on a voodoo. Draw this in your style drawing. I'm into that. That's cool.
Alex Lazaris:
That's pretty awesome.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, that works for me.
Alex Lazaris:
Man, there are so many images of this guy.
Voodoo Val:
There are. I've actually used an image of the exact robot in a daily creative challenge before because he's just such a cool little guy.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah. Wow.
Voodoo Val:
The Owen Wilson. Owen Wilson. Wow. Okay. What time is it? Oh, man, we got, like, maybe eight to ten minutes left until it's time for a new. I'm, like, not prepared for how fast we're drawing words. Like, I'm not sure how to feel about it, but I guess we're just going to go with it.
Alex Lazaris:
Might as well. I mean, we can slow it down. We can just let chat. Give us one word.
Voodoo Val:
We could, except I feel like we would be, like, taking it easy on ourselves because it would be so much easier to do that. Hopefully we get a chat's choice, and chat will be really nice to us. And then after, since this is our first episode, we can kind of reconvene after the show and be like, was that a disaster, or do we continue on with what we did?
Alex Lazaris:
This is the part that you have a complete advantage of, is I'm stuck looking at stock photos, and you're cranking along.
Voodoo Val:
Okay, I can switch over to yeah.
Alex Lazaris:
You'Re doing work on my hair. Your advantage right now.
Voodoo Val:
All right. I'm working on this red hair. That's how I'm incorporating the color red, folks, is I'm adding red hair to my character, and we had the word toy and the word Spiky in our words that we've drawn out of the magic hat so far. So I've got Spiky hair on my character. I've got rubber ducky earrings for the toy theme and red hair, and then I have to incorporate wedding somehow. And honestly, I don't even know how that is going to go. I guess I could put a wedding veil on her, right?
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely could. Totally sorry, Alex. I vote for Darth Val.
Voodoo Val:
I'm Darth Valpatine. Thank you very much. It's what they call me.
Alex Lazaris:
Never stood a chance.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, it's what my enemies call me. All the enemies I have because I'm such a such a scary person, because I'm so terrifying. All right, let me get some of this dark red down in here's. All right. I would say we have just a few minutes before new word cut. It's almost new word time, guys. Universe, have mercy on us, because that's just the end there, okay. Because I'm real sad. That's why. You're, like, waiting for the punchline to that, and that's it. The wedding one really just killing me right now.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah.
Voodoo Val:
Do not know what to do. Feel like I have to show off more that these are earrings and not just strange ducks floating in space near the ears of my character, because right now, that's kind of what it looks like. Oh, I could do, like, a hair barrett. Actually, that makes way more sense. I'm going to change this decky into, like, a hair barrett.
Alex Lazaris:
That would be amazing if I grew if I drew Trek and she drew Star.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, my God. Stop snow.
Alex Lazaris:
There would be no comeback for her.
Voodoo Val:
I will never escape all of these Star Trek jokes. I think this is just, like, I'm doomed to always have to endure this. All right, I'm adding some shinies and some blushies to my deck, because that's what this needs, I think.
Alex Lazaris:
All right, I'm ready to draw another one.
Voodoo Val:
You ready to draw another word? Oh, God. Okay. I still haven't added wedding, so I got to catch up, but let's do another word. All right, here we go, guys. Oh, I don't like this. All right, what do you got?
Alex Lazaris:
Black.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. Thank God. Okay. I've got Sci-Fi, which puts you vastly ahead of the game. And me.
Alex Lazaris:
High five.
Voodoo Val:
Sci-fi like science fiction, and you've got robots. So I have to add Sci-Fi stuff to mine, and I still have to add weding to mine, and he's already got Sci-Fi. Okay, well, lucky you, I guess.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah, but I still have to figure out how to incorporate red in here.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. I have to incorporate weddings still, so we'll see how that goes. There's my little ducky hair pin, and I'm going to give it, like, a little I'm going to use the color black hay to add, like, a little pin in there, like, so boom. It's not too difficult. I don't know what am I going to do for Sci-Fi. I'm going to zoom over to your screen real quick so people can see. He's got, like, these great robots in here, and I just got no I don't know. I don't even know if there were rubber duckies in space, to be perfectly honest with you, so I don't know how this is going to work.
Alex Lazaris:
I mean, you could always make it a metal ship.
Voodoo Val:
I could.
Alex Lazaris:
That's easy, right? Just make a metal ship with the ducky.
Voodoo Val:
I don't know. The whole duck is a ship.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah.
Voodoo Val:
The mothership, the ducky ship.
Alex Lazaris:
Perfect.
Voodoo Val:
The SS waddle.
Alex Lazaris:
I think you've gone quackers.
Voodoo Val:
Well, it's been a great stream, but after that one, I've got to go. I don't know if I can stay here after that, but I was trying really hard. All right.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm just incorporating some that long. We've managed to get this long without.
Voodoo Val:
Know, honestly, I'm I mean and yon Eric is here today, guys, so I don't know how everyone is just quacking in the color. I'm using. I'm using black to come in and add some sketchy lines. I'm adding some actual facial features to this character here's.
Alex Lazaris:
Adjust my levels on this ball.
Voodoo Val:
All right. Wow. I just hit a hotkey. That brought us to the thank you for watching screen.
Alex Lazaris:
Sorry about that. Thanks.
Voodoo Val:
This is over. Get out before it gets too bad. Okay. Wedding. Wedding. I'm going to put her in a wedding dress. That's what I'm going to do. That's how this is going to go.
Alex Lazaris:
All right, are we ready for another word?
Voodoo Val:
No. What? Let me actually catch my breath here. We are not ready for another word. Not at all.
Alex Lazaris:
Why not?
Voodoo Val:
Because this is already, like, a disaster. I'm giving her some pretty lace here around the collar and around the back. It's going to be like, a pretty wedding dress esque look, I think we'll see. We'll see how it goes. I'll even give her, like, a little veil. Here we go. It it. Oh, no. Who wears a rubber ducky to their wedding?
Alex Lazaris:
I mean, he's obviously the best man.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, gosh. I don't know.
Alex Lazaris:
My robot's wedding for sure.
Voodoo Val:
Really?
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely.
Voodoo Val:
Please never send me an invite to that. Can I uninvite myself to any future robot weddings that include rubber duckies?
Alex Lazaris:
I mean, are you scared of them?
Voodoo Val:
I'm actually, like, wholeheartedly intimidated. Yeah, it's like a real thing. No, I'm just kidding. All right. There's a wedding veil in this painting now. Can't believe this.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm trying to plan out how many more words we're going to have and how many of those might be objects and how many rings I need orbiting this beautiful wedding.
Voodoo Val:
We'll probably have one or two more drawings, so it's about to get crazy in here, I think. Oh, you know what? I'm going to take the ducky. I'm going to take the ducky, and I'm going to put the ducky up. Instead of, like, flowers around the veil, it's going to be ducks. Yeah. It's going to be little quackers. It's going to be great. Boom. You grab this, bring this up here it look at these little ducks. Oh, no. Crown of duck.
Alex Lazaris:
Wow.
Voodoo Val:
Mind blown. I can't handle that together. I'm doing them, like, all different sizes and just, like, throwing them all over the place.
Alex Lazaris:
I don't think I put any food items in our thing, did you?
Voodoo Val:
I don't think I put any food items no, you're safe from that.
Alex Lazaris:
I know. I think what is it? Noel was asking for food items in the next one.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, man.
Alex Lazaris:
We can probably put some in for tomorrow.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, we could. You guys can also feel free to message us. You can tweet at me on Twitter. You can message me on behance or whatever with any interesting words or themes you would like added to the magic hat. And we can do our very best to accommodate any shenanigans you would like to throw our way. That would be great.
Alex Lazaris:
All right, I'm ready for another word. Let's go. Let's go.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, God. Okay, here we go. Let me place this last little duck.
Alex Lazaris:
I think we're probably still ahead of schedule on it.
Voodoo Val:
I think we are. I think now we're just, like, literally just tossing them around willy nilly.
Alex Lazaris:
No, now I'm like but it's about getting too sucked into where I am and just having to scrap it in 15 minutes. Honestly, probably going to happen.
Voodoo Val:
I think we can handle it. All right, let me group these together and bump this down so you can see the little veil. I literally have a flower halo of ducks with their eyes wide open on this character. Okay. Magic cat time.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, my gosh. That's amazing. Incredible.
Voodoo Val:
Is it good? Okay. Thank God. Please don't duck it up. Wow. Yawn. Wow.
Alex Lazaris:
A beautiful yawn.
Voodoo Val:
All right, here we go. Let's draw another word. You ready? New magic cat word, guys. All right, what do you got?
Alex Lazaris:
We can toss this one maybe what is crimson?
Voodoo Val:
Crimson. Oh, we already got red.
Alex Lazaris:
Toss that.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, go ahead, scrap it.
Alex Lazaris:
All right, I've got fabulous.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. All right, we could do that. Just make everything a little extra. Mine is nature, so we have to add something natural, some nature something to it.
Alex Lazaris:
Nature.
Voodoo Val:
Which is weird, because I could have used that back when I wanted to do a flower crown and only had ducks to use. But that's fine.
Alex Lazaris:
Ducks are nature.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, ducks.
Alex Lazaris:
Rubber ducky, though.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, it is a rubber ducky, and that's my toy thing. So let me see. I could do I'm definitely going to add, like, some anime shinies for fabulous.
Alex Lazaris:
It's a good one. That's a great thing about this, is, like, you can interpret it however you like.
Voodoo Val:
Exactly. It there's some anime shinies.
Alex Lazaris:
Nature. Would you consider a planet being nature?
Voodoo Val:
Oh, yeah, I think so. Okay, so you could add a planet. You're welcome.
Alex Lazaris:
Very generous.
Voodoo Val:
You're very welcome. Okay, I'm going to cut this down a little bit. Also, I really hope that other people are doing this challenge too.
Alex Lazaris:
Me too.
Voodoo Val:
Because I want to see what monstrosities other people have had to create in order to keep up with this challenge. I really like the little spiky ball that you've added to that planetary thing you got going on there.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah, it reminds me of those, like, if you go to a doctor or dentist or whatever, or like the 25 cent machine.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah. Get like a little spiky toy, like.
Alex Lazaris:
A little bouncy ball or like those.
Voodoo Val:
Little things you put in the dryer. They're supposed to be almost like dryer sheets, but they look like that. They work like dryer sheets.
Alex Lazaris:
That's cool.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, it's actually pretty neat. It's like I'm putting little alien pods in my dryer. Every time I use it, I feel very cool. Oh, I still have to speaking of alien pods, I still have to add Sci-Fi something to this. All right, there's my little fabulous anime shinies. I'm going to come over here and zoom in on them real quick so you get oops, oops, oops. Let's see. Boom. Got my little anime shinies going on. Ewoks were doing that singing, like thing, right? Ewoks have beautiful voices, actually. Whoa. Can I get another one of those for science? No. Really? Are you sure you don't want to give us just one more inside of.
Alex Lazaris:
Me for a little bit, and then it had to come out, and now I feel so much better.
Voodoo Val:
That feeling when you got an ewok gobble inside and you got to just let it out. Oh, my gosh.
Alex Lazaris:
These things take control of you.
Voodoo Val:
Amanda Wilson, welcome into the chat. Hello. Hello. Also welcome in everyone who is new. We are doing the magic hat game today on. This very first ever episode of Design Off here on Adobe. Essentially, what's going on here is me and Alex. I'm going to switch to our little dual view here. Me and Alex are artists from different disciplines. I am an illustrator, and he is a creative director and graphic artist. And we are drawing words throughout this stream from magic hats, and we are incorporating those words as themes into our artwork as we go along. So, so far, we have drawn the words spiky and toy. So he's got, like, this cool little spike ball thing that he's got going on, and he's got some toy robots. That's actually pretty cool. You got, like, a little rotating moon going on over there. It almost looks like you could animate that. I've got rubber duckies, and I've got Spiky hair, is how I went with that thing. Then what else did we do? We got Red Wedding. Red and wedding. Yeah. Nature toy. Sci-fi. We got sci-fi and black. So we've been drawing these things out of the hat, trying to create something based on all these as we go along, and it's only slightly disastrous so far. Only slightly, because we're having a really good time. It's just that it can be really hard to incorporate all these things. I think we're doing a good job, though, to be honest.
Alex Lazaris:
Phenomenal.
Voodoo Val:
I think we are doing a good job.
Alex Lazaris:
We're the best two people streaming this content right now. We are on our same words.
Voodoo Val:
It helps that we're the only people that are doing the show.
Alex Lazaris:
Exactly.
Voodoo Val:
But no one can take that away from us.
Alex Lazaris:
We're the best two people in this instance right now. Okay, so I'm struggling now with this moon and this.
Voodoo Val:
Like, I think you should have both of them. I like both of them.
Alex Lazaris:
Both of them. I'm trying to figure out what lighting.
Voodoo Val:
Honestly, I'm not an expert in that aspect. Like, I have no idea.
Alex Lazaris:
Am I saying that this wedding is so fabulous that it is lighting the whole solar system?
Voodoo Val:
It could be. Oh, yeah, that's right. You're doing a robot wedding. That's how you incorporated wedding.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah, I'm kind of like, eventually, if I have enough time, I'm going to turn his little antennas into, like, little heart shapes.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, no. Robots in love, guys. Where else are you going to get this content? Honestly, where else? This is great.
Alex Lazaris:
You just love to see it.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. All right, I've got my little I think I'm going to cool it on the shinies, to be perfectly honest. I think I got, like, a lot of shinies going on right now, and I think even anime fans are, like, done with it. So I'm going to stop with all the shinies. Okay. I'm going to write the words down so that I don't forget them. I'm going to call this layer words. Also, we probably have to draw another thing. We've literally got about ten minutes before we have to stop. So I'm going to call this. We've had toy. We've had spiky. We've had red wedding.
Alex Lazaris:
Wedding. Fabulous. Nature.
Voodoo Val:
Nature. And we've had black and Sci-Fi.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, yeah.
Voodoo Val:
And Sci-Fi. Okay, so those are all there's. My horrible handwriting. Sorry. I just need to keep track of everything. So I've got a veil and a wedding veil in the lace of a wedding dress on her red spiky hair. Ducks for toys, shinies for fabulous. Yeah, she's got spiky hair for the spikiness. I've got black in here. I'm just leaving that because that's easy for me. I need to add nature, and I need to add Sci-Fi.
Alex Lazaris:
I've got to figure out how to get fabulous in here.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, I don't know. How do I get chat? Help me. How do I get Sci-Fi and nature into this?
Alex Lazaris:
Give a person a cyborg eye.
Voodoo Val:
That's actually genius. She could be a cyborg this whole time she was a cyborg, and you guys didn't even know? Okay, let me do, like, a chat knew.
Alex Lazaris:
They just didn't want to tell you.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, that's true. You guys were keeping it from me. I'm going to do the old anime trick where you can see the eyebrows.
Alex Lazaris:
Through the bangs classic.
Voodoo Val:
For no reason other than why not. Or I could give her, like, those strange little the weird little anime eyebrows where it's just, like, a little bean on the inside of the eyebrow. Give her those. Let's just do that little bean brows. Yeah. Oh, we should probably draw. Yeah, we should probably draw one. Oh, do we even want to draw one last one? Should we do it?
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely.
Voodoo Val:
Okay, what?
Alex Lazaris:
15 minutes left in the stream?
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, well, we've got ten minutes left because the last, like, three to five minutes. We got to say goodbye. Okay, maybe less than ten minutes. All right, let's see.
Alex Lazaris:
I got a color, so I'm dropping it.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, I just drew that one from last time. I'm going to put it back in. Okay. Oh, gosh. Okay, what do you got?
Alex Lazaris:
It's a chat.
Voodoo Val:
Chat choice.
Alex Lazaris:
Chat choice.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. Chat's choice. Give us something good. Mine that I drew is slither. I don't even know how we're supposed to like, you could put, like, snakes, space snakes.
Alex Lazaris:
I don't slither.
Voodoo Val:
I'm going to give my girl a snake necklace. I think that's how I'm going to do that. We got, like, literally less than ten minutes to figure out how that did you just type in Kraken? Yes.
Alex Lazaris:
I'm not messing around.
Voodoo Val:
Yes. All right, guys. Noel says bacon. Bacon bits. Somebody says ice cream. Come on, Chat. Give us some more. Give us some more chips. Lena says I guess we could technically, since it's chat's choice, we could just choose individually what we want to take. Some doritos pizzas. Snowflakes. I'll take snowflakes for $200. Snowflakes so easy. I'm going to add snowflake design to the lace around the edges of my lace dress. That's what I'm going to do. So I'm going to draw a snowflake which looks like this in my mind, apparently. Oops.
Alex Lazaris:
We'll see how this goes. Everything I'm using is photorealistic, so I need to, like octopus. All these cracking illustrations aren't doing it for me.
Voodoo Val:
All right.
Alex Lazaris:
Meatball asteroids.
Voodoo Val:
We are coming to pretty close to the end of the broadcast here too, by the way.
Alex Lazaris:
Cat.
Voodoo Val:
I'm, like, trying to very quickly draw a snowflake. I don't think I've ever drawn a snowflake before.
Alex Lazaris:
I know. You need to get, like, the mixed media thing and start cutting paper. Snowflakes out.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, just, like, really go for it. Take some photos.
Alex Lazaris:
Yeah, just scan it in and then bring it in here.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, just go for it.
Alex Lazaris:
No time at all.
Voodoo Val:
In, like, two minutes, I could do that. Okay. What kind of stuff did Chat put in?
Alex Lazaris:
Scones.
Voodoo Val:
Meatball Asteroids. Come on. You guys are actually I don't know if you're out to get us or if you're our friends.
Alex Lazaris:
I think they were trying to help me.
Voodoo Val:
I think so too, but not me.
Alex Lazaris:
No, definitely not you.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, totally not me.
Alex Lazaris:
I don't like my octopus anymore.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, no.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, I don't have enough time for this.
Voodoo Val:
I know. I'm trying. We've got, like, five minutes, and I still have to incorporate Sci-Fi. Oh, gosh. This is, like, the test of the ages. Oh, gosh. Hey, listen, when I'm saying, oh, gosh, that's my chance to say, oh, gosh, you can't be exclaiming the same as me.
Alex Lazaris:
We absolutely can. Wait, so what are we taking from Chat?
Voodoo Val:
So you can take one word? Yeah, I took snowflake from Chat, so you can take whatever you want. One word. That is whatever you want from Chat. I won't police you on what you take.
Alex Lazaris:
All right, Chat, what do we got?
Voodoo Val:
Help them out, chat.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, my goodness. I actually might be saved.
Voodoo Val:
What?
Alex Lazaris:
I'm still trying to figure out the Chat thing, but I think I've found my Slithery something.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, yeah. I have to do Slithery. Oh, my gosh. And I literally have, like, four minutes. Okay. Oh, man. Big oof. Okay, I just made myself a snowflake gown, I guess. Okay, I'm going to do a color overlay on this and make it, like, a baby blue color overlay. Oh, man. I'm working hard. Kittens and mittens. That's definitely from Yon, right?
Alex Lazaris:
Absolutely.
Voodoo Val:
All right. There is my little thing. Okay. She's going to be an android. I got to add sci-fi. Oh, man. Okay, we got, like, four minutes, or honestly, we really have three. Yeah, like two or three minutes because we got to say goodbye for the last minute. I don't even know if I can draw a whole face in that amount of time. What was my other thing? I had to add slithery. Okay. I'm going to just go for Slithery, and then I'm going to put a planet behind her. And that's my sci-fi. I'm going to have to skimp a little bit. Okay. I'm going to give her a snake necklace, because who wouldn't wear a snake necklace to their wedding, right?
Alex Lazaris:
Exactly. I mean, I obviously wouldn't, but wow.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. You're the one over there with, like, a robot wedding, and I'm the weird one. That's fine. That's fine. It's okay. This is fine.
Alex Lazaris:
We can't be the same, though.
Voodoo Val:
I guess you're right.
Alex Lazaris:
Good morning.
Voodoo Val:
Okay. All right, I've got just a couple of minutes here. I'm trying to make a little snake necklace as, like, fast as I possibly can.
Alex Lazaris:
Blade runner. Help. I could probably get the car from Blade Runner.
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, go for it.
Alex Lazaris:
Oh, my God. In 1 minute?
Voodoo Val:
Yeah, in 1 minute.
Alex Lazaris:
Easy.
Voodoo Val:
I'm giving this character, like, a green snake necklace. Okay, here we go. I'm going to make this a clipping mask. Create clipping mask. Let me select a darker green color and give it some oh, no, hold on. I can't do that. Oh, yes, I can. Redo. Redo. Okay. All right, we actually have to start saying goodbye right now.
Alex Lazaris:
Perfect. We got you.
Voodoo Val:
All right.
Alex Lazaris:
Where I finished was my little skateboard gun.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, that actually looks cool. You actually have, like, a whole skateboard design. I'm adding little lines onto my snake, and then I don't have a planet.
Alex Lazaris:
You should put, like, a moon in her crown.
Voodoo Val:
Oh, that's a good idea.
Alex Lazaris:
Diamond.
Voodoo Val:
Here we go. There's, like, a little crescent moon. Shout out to my Sailor Moon fans. All right, guys, that's all we have time for today. I'm sure that we're going to be, like, cleaning these designs up and posting them. We're going to be back tomorrow with another challenge. This was super, super fun, actually. I was terrified that whole time, but that was a blast. I'm going to post my sketch onto my Twitter. I hope that you will also post your sketch that you did tomorrow. We can kind of show the cleaned up versions of because I'm sure we'll go and do a little bit of work on them between now and the next stream.
